.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Wednesday Night)
Issued at 240 AM CST Tue Dec 3 2024

To begin the period, calm and dry conditions will prevail Tuesday
under high pressure. A weak disturbance is expected to move through
central and southern portions of the state Wednesday bringing the
chance for rain. As of right now, southern Arkansas looks to see the
most rainfall from this system as some models are still in
disagreement on how far north rainfall will get. Slight chance of
thunder will be possible across extreme south Arkansas.

This system will push out with calm and drier conditions to begin
the long term. As mentioned above, rainfall amounts Wednesday will
be highest across southern Arkansas with a half inch to an inch
possible. Central Arkansas can expect lesser amounts up to half an
inch with northern Arkansas likely missing out completely.

Temperatures are expected to be seasonable for this time of the year
with highs in the low 40s to upper 50s and overnight low
temperatures dropping into the mid 20s to upper 30s.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Monday)
Issued at 240 AM CST Tue Dec 3 2024

At the start of the period an H500 cyclone will be making quick
progress eastward from the Great Lakes across New England. This will
provide steep N-NW mid-level flow across Arkansas and much of the
central/eastern US through the end of the week. At the sfc, a cold
front will move across the area and usher in much colder air as sfc
ridging builds in from the NW. Friday will be downright cold across
the state with readings in the teens expected around daybreak and
highs struggling to climb into the 40s F in some locations.

Into the weekend, the flow aloft will become less amplified as a
cutoff H500 low rotates across the SW US. Eventually, this feature
will lift northeastward toward the Southern Plains. A corresponding
sfc low and cold front will approach and move across the state. When
this occurs, precip chances are expected to increase.

Temperatures through Monday will warm as sfc ridging shifts east of
the area and srly winds return. After the cold front pushes through
early next week, cold temperatures will be back in the forecast.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 507 AM CST Tue Dec 3 2024

Calm and dry conditions are expected through the period as high
pressure takes over the weather pattern. Winds will be out of the
north early before becomig out of the south by tonight. VFR
condtions are expected through the period.
